What is the key difference between a parliamentary system of government and a presidential system of government?

In a parliamentary system, the legislative branch is supreme and the head of government is usually the leader of the political party or coalition with the most seats in parliament. In a presidential system, the executive branch is separate and coequal with the legislative branch, and the head of government is the president, who is directly elected by the people.
